Let’s be real… routines used to make me roll my eyes. Waking up at 5am, doing 100 things before breakfast, and pretending I enjoy kale smoothies? PFFFFF… hard pass.
But after trying (and failing) to “do it all,” I finally found a rhythm that actually works for me. It’s simple, flexible, and doesn’t make me want to quit my whole life.
This is exactly how I built a feel-good routine that fits my lazy girl energy—and still helps me move, eat, and rest in a way that feels good. No pressure. No shame. Just small steps that make a big difference.
Mornings That Don’t Feel Like a Punishment
I start my day with a 45-minute walk and real talk, it’s my favorite part of the routine. I’m not running or speed walking like I’m in a race. I just throw on a cute outfit, grab some water, and put on music or a podcast. My go to podcast lately have been Drama Queens. The One Tree Hill re watch podcast (because I just finished watching the series for the first time, insane, I know) Hosted by Bethany Joy Lenz, Sophia Bush, and Hilarie Burton Morgan. It’s like a 4 way call with your best friends, reliving every high school moment and behind the scenes scoop episode by episode. They dive into the fan favorite scenes, gossip about cast dynamics, and even share how revisiting the show has been healing for them!
Walking is so underrated. It instantly shifts my mood, gets my body moving, and makes me feel like I’ve done something good for myself before I even start work.
It’s like: “Heyyyyy, I did something already! Go me.” And that energy carries through the rest of the day.
Work from Home Flow (aka Leggings All Day)
I work from home until about 2pm, which means I’m usually in comfy clothes, hair in a clip, and replying to emails from the couch. But here’s where it gets real: if I don’t drink water or eat something decent with protein during this stretch, I crash harddddd.
So yeah, hydration is a non negotiable now. I keep a water bottle near me at all times and aim to finish it before lunch. It sounds simple, but staying hydrated honestly makes everything better!!! My skin, my mood, my energy, all of it.
Lazy Girl Movement That Still Works
After work, I do an indoor workout but not the kind that makes you want to cry. I’m talking floor pilates: no jumping, low impact, and still makes my abs burn.
I’m not here to punish myself. I’m here to feel strong without dreading it.
Some days, motivation is low. I totally get that. But I’ve learned that setting low expectations actually helps me follow through. Like, if I say, “Just 20 minutes,” I’ll usually end up doing more and I feel amazing after.
Pro tip: put on a cute set you feel good in. It weirdly helps????
Rest Is Part of the Routine (Seriously)
After dinner, I don’t try to do anything productive. I let myself chill. Sometimes that means watching a show in bed, doing a skincare moment, or scrolling until I pass out.
Rest is important, period. And yes, sometimes you NEED a full rest day. But also? You can’t let “rest” become your routine. Balance is key.
For me, it’s about knowing the difference between “I need a break” and “I’m avoiding everything.” Biiiiiiiig difference.
If You’re Starting from Scratch…
Here’s my biggest advice: just pick one thing. Not five. Not a whole lifestyle overhaul. Just one habit that feels doable every single day.
Maybe it’s a 10 minute walk. Maybe it’s drinking water before coffee. Maybe it’s stretching during your favorite show.
Once that feels automatic, then you can add something else. It’s how I went from zero to having a whole routine without even realizing it. I’m not joking, this seriously helps.
Final Thoughts
I didn’t build this routine overnight. And it’s not about perfection; it’s about what makes me feel good, consistently.
If the idea of “routine” makes you cringe, try reframing it: it’s not about strict rules or being hyper-productive. It’s about taking care of yourself in ways that feel good and realistic.
Start small. Give yourself grace. And don’t be surprised when you start to love it!
